The Chris Hondros Fund & Getty Images Award honors Chris, his work, and his distinctive ability that brought shared human experiences into the public eye.
As a photographer working in the world’s most difficult and dangerous places, Chris connected his viewers with people embroiled in far-flung and sometimes obscure conflicts. He recognized the shared humanity among those affected by war, regardless of culture or beliefs, and he was determined to share their challenges to the wider world in the hope of provoking thought, raising awareness and fostering understanding.
One of Chris’s many skills was in humanizing world events that are all too often reduced to abstractions that minimize their impact on those involved. Chris was a witness to their struggles and his work ensured that they were not forgotten or overlooked. This award celebrates Chris’s legacy.
